Pakistan dismissed the entire Indian side for 266 runs in their second match of the Asia Cup 2023 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka, on Saturday.
The Pakistani pacers got their side off to a great start as they removed four Indian batters for just 66 runs, including the big wickets of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
But, Hardik Pandya (87 off 90) and Ishan Kishan (82 off 81) added 138 runs in 141 balls for the fifth wicket and helped the Blues put 266 on the scoreboard.
However, the Pakistani pacers ended up making two records during today's encounter.
All ten wickets of the Indian side were taken by Pakistani seamers and this happened for the first time in Asia Cup (ODI) history.
Other than that, this was also the first time since September 2004 that the Pakistani fast bowlers took all ten wickets against India in an ODI.
The last time this happened was in the ICC Champions Trophy 2004 in Birmingham when the Blues got all out on 200 runs. Pakistan also won that match by three wickets.
Pacer Shaheen Afridi — who became the only bowler to bowled Kohli and Sharma in a single match or an inning — was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan with figures of 4-35 in 10 overs. He claimed the prized scalps of Pandya, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja.
Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah both took three wickets each while the latter bowled an economical spell of 3-36 in 8.5 overs.
The match is currently being delayed due to rain and a wet outfield.
However, If overs are reduced, Pakistan's target will be:
254 in 45 overs |
239 in 40 overs |
203 in 30 overs |
180 in 25 overs |
155 in 20 overs |
